It would be very helpful for me to see a few examples of a "compelling" professional summaries linked to #2 above.

I've been all over the net and 95% of the examples are stuffed to the gills with the usual buzzwords, which to my = bullshit/smoke-and-mirrors. ("Self-motivated? Is there an alternative?) Tell me what you actually did in layman's terms. I think the same reading job descriptions: What the hell does this job really entail? An assistant or someone who is really in there getting things done? Saw one last week looking for someone who, gag, thinks "out-of-the-box." Please! I like to think I think so "out-of-the-box" that I'd chew glass before using a term like "out-of-the-box" or similar. Who wants to work for a company that uses "out-of-the-box" in the job description? (And this was a luxury brand marketing company.)

at 48, this is the first time I've had to use a resume to seek work. Prior to that, jobs came to me. (For potential clients, I just send them to my website.) Though I've always kept an up to date resume on file, now that I have to actually send it out, I'm intimidated, but am managing to put one together that reflects my personality. Here's where I'm at as of today,

"An innovative, perceptive and tenacious publicist with noted ability to effectively present projects to the media articulately, using wit, humor and an economy of buzzwords. Enthusiastically involved from conception to completion, able to quickly grasp projects, then create and initiate appropriate campaigns tailored to a variety of media targets. An expert in GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender) media worldwide, a powerful asset to any business seeking to target this varied, complex and lucrative market in publicity and marketing campaigns."

I'm a independent publicist. I'm looking for an in-house position in PR/marketing/trust agent, while also seeking clients. Whatever it takes to pay the bills, right now. I'm currently tweaking my resume to get an interview with an employment agency specializing in pr, marketing, advertising.

Thanks!

[...] As a job seeker, you have a resume and you send it to every possible job opening you can find. You make sure every recruiter in town has at least one copy on her desk. It’s posted in 6 places on Monster.com and 4 places on CareerBuilder.com. You hand it out like those guys hocking strip-show fliers on 5th Avenue in New York City. You even sent one to your best friend’s mother, simply because she seems to know everybody! But how effective is your resume, really?
