Preservation of Substances is important for inhibiting the growth of microorganisms. There are various ways to prevent the growth of microorganisms in substances.

Question 1: Name any two chemical preservatives.
Ans 1: The two chemical preservatives are:
Sodium Benzoate
Sodium metabisulphite
Question 2: Name any four methods of food preservation
The four methods of preservation are:
Preservation by Sugar: Sugar reduces the moisture content of the substance. We add sugar so that the growth of the microorganisms can be inhibited.
Preservation by Oil and Salt: Oil and salt act as natural preservatives. They do not allow microorganisms to destroy food substances.

Chemical Preservation: We can use chemical preservatives to stop the growth of microorganisms. Example of two chemical preservatives are Sodium benzoate and Sodium metabilsulphite.
Heating and Cooling: Heating on a particular temperature kills microorganisms and after that we let it cool down. So, by doing this we can keep a check on the growth of microorganisms.
Question 3: Why is more oil and salt added to the pickle?
more oil and salt is added to the pickle because both of them act as preservative and the microorganisms can’t survive in the environment where oil and salt is present.
Question 4: Name any four things made from mango that we can preserve.
Ans 4. The four things made from mango that we can preserve are:
- Mango Candy
- Aam Papad
- Mango pickle
- Mango Laccha
