The minerals which are needed by our body are as follows:
Calcium: Calcium is important for the proper growth of our teeth and bones. Sources of Calcium are Milk and food products made by milk like curd. Green leafy vegetables also have calcium in them
Iron: Iron is essential for the formation of haemoglobin which is pigment that provides red colour to our body. The rich sources of iron are Spinach and other green leafy vegetables
Iodine: Iodine is one of the most important minerals needed for our body. Its deficiency causes Goitre diseases (enlargement in neck area). Iodised Salts, fruits and vegetables are the sources of Iodine.

Question 5: State the role of calcium in our body.
Ans 5: Calcium is one of the most important minerals needed for our body. Right from the birth, a child needs calcium. Calcium helps in the development of bones and teeth. Its deficiency can cause weakness, teeth and bone diseases. Lack of calcium leads to weak bones. The main source of Calcium are Milk and products made from milk like curd etc. Green leafy vegetables also contain calcium mineral.

(a) Carbohydrates

(b)Proteins
The rich source of protein are: Egg, Soyabean, Milk and meat etc
(c) Fats
The sources of Fats are Rice, Mustard oil, Coconut oil, Milk and its products like Ghee, butter etc.
Question 3: Why do we need proteins and how do they affect our health?
We need proteins because proteins are the building blocks of our bodies. They are essential for the growth of tissues and are also essential for the muscles in our body. They are also working for the wear and tear of the body tissues and helps in their repair. The deficiency of protein in our body can lead to malnutrition.
Question 4: A mineral ‘X’ is essential for the formation of component ‘Y’ in the blood of a person. The function, of component Y, is to transport oxygen in the body.
The deficiency of mineral ‘X’ in the diet of a person, causes a disease Z. Identify, X, Y, and Z. Also, mention the symptoms of disease Z.

Y stands for haemoglobin. Iron helps in the formation of haemoglobin in our body which transports oxygen to the blood.

The deficiency of iodine is more in people living in mountain regions because the soil and water lack iodine in the mountain region.
